It seems like a lot of kids run generic, political power cards from Foucault. While these obviously don't come up a ton, I have seen people on several of the last topics that have forced some Foucault into their cases. Often he has been used to cover government legitimacy and state control.

Any idea where these cards usually come from (i.e. Discipline and Punish, History of Madness, etc.)?

Everyone runs to Foucault cards from History of Sexuality Vol 1 to give impacts to biopower, but in reality, most utilizations of Foucault in debate are misinterpretations of his philosophy (ie trying to make biopower prescriptive when its descriptive)

Some of the possible LD topics for next year strike me as possible ways to utilize Foucault's panopticism from "Discipline and Punish."

Resolved: Records of an individual’s home Internet use ought to be protected from unreasonable search and seizure by the government.

One could argue a possible impact of allowing the government to seize and look at internet records is hardcore panoptic surveillance.
